Largest Federal Contract Awards May-July 2026: Border Wall, Polar Ships, Destroyers, and Pharma

Summer 2026 federal action dollars were not quiet. USASpending transaction samples show ~$2.59B and ~$2.54B DHS obligations for border barrier and multi-purpose polar ships, billion-dollar DDG-51 construction mods at Bath Iron Works and HII, Electric Boat SSN long-lead, and VA pharma prime-vendor waves. Here is the ranked board and who to open next.

TL;DR · Key Facts
  • ▸Largest USASpending transaction in the May-Jul 2026 window sampled: 70B01C26F00000405 ~$2.59B to Fisher Sand & Gravel (DHS) for border barrier design-build BBT-5 (action date Jun 2, 2026).
  • ▸Second: 70Z02326C93210003 ~$2.54B to Davie Defense (DHS/USCG) for five multi-purpose polar ships (Jul 31, 2026). Navy DDG-51 construction transactions ~$1.51B (Bath Iron Works) and ~$1.32B (Huntington Ingalls) hit in May.

Why this board is transactions, not press releases

March and April 2026 already have Fed-Spend roundups. May-July was the missing summer chapter. This list ranks USASpending transactions (action dollars recorded in-window), not cumulative IDIQ ceilings from 1990s M&O vehicles. That is the difference between "what printed this summer" and "what an old lab contract is worth on paper."

Data note: Pulled Aug 15, 2026 via USASpending `spending_by_transaction` for 2026-05-01 to 2026-07-31, award types A-D, sorted by Transaction Amount. Amounts are federal action obligations for that modification/order, not always a brand-new sole award.

1. DHS construction and icebreaking ate the top of the board

Border barrier task orders and polar / Arctic cutter work dominate ranks 1-3, 7-8, and 15. If your capture calendar ignored DHS infrastructure all spring, you missed the loudest summer dollars.

2. Destroyers and submarines still print in May

Bath Iron Works and Huntington Ingalls DDG-51 construction transactions plus Electric Boat SSN 815 long-lead show the shipbuilding industrial base remains a recurring obligation machine. Read the HII deep dive for yard context, then open the live company card for expiry.

3. VA health transactions are a stealth mega-buyer

McKesson, Optum, and TriWest express-report rows repeatedly clear near $1B. They look like "reports" in the description field and behave like cash. Pharma and community-care primes belong on any summer watchlist.

How to turn this board into pipeline

  • Pick three recipients from the table in your market.
  • Open each on Fed-Spend search / company profile - pull agency mix and the 12-month expiry teaser.
  • For shipbuilding rows, map suppliers with subaward / teaming thinking, not fantasy prime swaps.
  • Set alerts on DHS construction NAICS and VA PPV-related keywords before Q4 surge.
  • Cross-check April's board (April 2026 largest awards) so you do not double-count ceilings.
  • Bottom line

Summer 2026's largest recorded action dollars clustered in DHS barrier and polar ships, Navy DDG/SSN, and VA health. The free aha is the ranked PIID table. The paid move is opening the recipient's company file and reading what else they have coming due.
